CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA --
North Stafford senior Kristyn Shiring and Colonial Forge junior Michael Porter blitzed
the competition at the Commonwealth District Meet as they ran away to district titles.
Shiring, the #6 ranked runner in the state, broke away from the field early in the race
to run a scorching time of 18:48.3 on the very difficult Panorama Farms course, which many
consider to be slower than the Great Meadows state course. She will get another chance to
better her time at Panorama next week at the Northwest Region Meet where she will be going
up against rival Jemissa Hess of C.D. Hylton, the #5 ranked runner in the state. Both runners have scored victories over the other
numerous times this season.
Finishing runner-up to Shiring in the girls race was Brooke Point sophomore Jessica Hoppe
in a time of 20:01.9. Her performance helped lead the Brooke Point girls to a district title
with 52 points. Colonial Forge (65 pts), Albemarle (66 pts), and North Stafford (88 pts) will
also move onto the Northwest Region Meet with Brooke Point.
Porter had an impressive race to win in a time of 16:40.7. Giving chase to Porter was Albemarle
senior Travis Lambert (2nd, 16:53.4) and teammate Sean Leyh (3rd, 16:55.9). Two runners in the
top three was not enough for Colonial Forge as Lambert's Patriots of Albemarle had far superior
depth with five runners in the top ten. Along with Lambert, earning all-district honors for
Albemarle was Nick Noe (4th, 17:00), Hari Mix (5th, 17:00.3), Andrew Parkins (9th, 17:45.4),
Wes Kimble (10th, 17:47.3), and Joe Murray (13th, 18:06.9). The Albemarle boys will be heading
into next week's Northwestion Region Meet as the favorite, but will be challenged by will be
heavily challenged by Woodbridge. Rounding out the group of four teams advancing onto the
regional meet are Colonial Forge (43 pts), North Stafford (79 pts), and Culpeper (107 pts).
