Meet Information
In the boys meet the best performance of the day was probably Norfolk Academy's Jordan Cyrus. Cyrus won the 100, anchored a come from behind photo-finish win in the 4x100, and then came back less than 15 minutes later to win the 400M. The most competitive event of the day was probably the long jump. Four guys jumped over 20 feet and Atlantic Shores' Randy Howard won with a jump of 22' 1". That probably makes him one of the top guys to beat in the VIS. Other notables were Currituck's Brandon Collier winning the Discus in 142' 5" and Norfolk Academy's Tev'n Powers winning a tight tactical 1600M that had six go under 5:00.
In the girls meet Norfolk Academy athletes took first in all but 2 events. Michelle Sutherland won the 100M Hurdles, the 300M Hurdles, the Long Jump, the Triple Jump, the High Jump, and ran the fastest leg on the winning 4x400 team. Shandell Scott won the 100M and 200M. Anna Blackwood, Jenn Caughey, and Heather Clagett won by large margins in the 1600, 800, and 400. Denbigh Baptist's Katie Keating won the shot with a toss just under 28' and Currituck's Jessica Van Hise won the Discus in 86' 3".
