2024 NORTHWESTERN DISTRICT INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

DATE &SITE:

Monday, February 5, 2024

Wilkins Athletics & Events Center, Shenandoah University, Winchester, VA.

Doors open to teams at 2:00 PM, field events start 3:00 PM.

Weather contingency: outdoors if possible, no alternate date at SU.

ADMISSION: $10.00 for all spectators. Pre-purchase tickets on gofan.co or at the gate using debit/credit. 

PASSES: VHSCA, VHSL, VIAAA, VATA, VSBA, and VHSL Principal state membership cards only.  No school, district, region, or senior passes accepted.

OFFICIALS:  Key officials (referee, starter, finish line, FAT, jury of appeals) will be VHSL certified officials.Each team is asked to provide one person (coach, parent, administrator) to assist with relay exchanges, turn judging, and field event assistance.

TIMING:  Blue Ridge Timing by arrangement with Shenandoah University.

SCORING:  6 places (10-8-6-4-2-1) for all events in both divisions, including relays.

AWARDS: Team Champions and Runner-Up. Medals to top three in individual events and top two relay teams. Coaches should pick up awards packet prior to  leaving the meet.

HOSPITALITY:  Hospitality will be available for event workers and coaches.

CONCESSIONS: Will be operated by Shenandoah University.

T-SHIRTS:  Will be offered by American Screen Printing.

SPIKES: 1/8" or 1/4" spikes pyramid spikes ONLY will be checked in bullpen and at the event.

ENTRIES: Three entries per individual event and one team in each relay

All entry marks must be from the 2023-2024 indoor track season and should be verified through Milestat.

Entries through Milestat open on January 22 and are due by 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31.  On the VHSL form, you must state the meet and the date of each performance. Remember to include names of potential alternate relay runners who are not participating in an individual event.

MILESTAT ENTRIES ARE FINAL AND MUST MEET THE 3-EVENT RUNNING EVENT RULE. RELAY TEAM MEMBERS ARE NOT FINAL UNTIL THE RELAY CARD IS TURNED INTO THE CLERK. SINCE THIS IS A ONE DAY MEET, ANY ATHLETE ENTERED IN THE 3200 METER RUN IS ONLY ALLOWED ONE OTHER RUNNING EVENT.

Entry note for the 1000 and 3200 meter runs: you may use 800 meter or 3000 meter converted times from the 2023-24 indoor season, using the calculator at https://www.milesplit.com/calc . Please note these converted times with an asterisk (*) on the VHSL entry form for verification.

SCRATCHES: Email early scratches (no penalty) or any substitutions to Brian Sullivan before noon on Thursday, February 1 so the meet can be properly seeded. After this time, scratches will be taken at the coaches meeting without penalty.  No athlete changes or additions in events once the performance list has been posted.  No substitutions will be allowed after the February 1 deadline.  

TEAM PERSONNEL: All team personnel including managers, scorekeepers, etc. must enter with the team.  All team personnel must stay in the designated team area except for athletes reporting for events.  Coaches boxes in the infield for field and running events will be described at the coaches meeting.

Parking & Athlete Drop Off:  Teams must unload and pick up at west entrance of Wilkins A&E Center (between building and I-81) and enter through southern most door on that side (closest to main parking lot). Teams are NOT TO ENTER main entrance / Rotunda at all through course of meet. Buses and Vans can be parked behind the building in the designated bus parking areas.

Athlete Warm Ups / Cool Downs: Athletes may use the stadium turf for warm ups. Please inform athletes they are absolutely not permitted to use adjacent golf course for warming up. The outdoor track on main campus (down hill from indoor track) can also be used for warming up.  Please instruct athletes the North entrance (all glass) is the only in/out for athlete access to building once meet has begun for warming up and cooling down. Again, teams are not to exit/enter main entrance / Rotunda at all through course of meet.

2:45 PM Women's high jump (4'2" opening height*, five alive)

3:00 PM Women's shotput (2 flights, 4 attempts, all final)

Men's long jump (2 flights, 4 attempts, all final)

Men's pole vault (8'0" opening height*, five alive)

followed by

Men's shotput (2 flights, 4 attempts, all final)

Women's long jump (2 flights, 4 attempts, all final)

Men's triple jump (1 flight, 4 attempts, all final)

Women's triple jump (1 flight, 4 attempts, all final)

Women's pole vault (6'0" opening height*, five alive)

Men's high jump (5'0" opening height*, five alive).

*opening heights subject to change by the games committee/meet director
