Meet Information
Suffolk MIddle School Outdoor Track & Field - Regular Season
BOYS and GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Track and Field teams shall comprise no more than twenty-five (40) students per season per team (Boys/Girls).
Start Time
All Track meets will start at 5:00 p.m.
Field Events and Running Events
All field events will start at 5:30 pm; all running events will start at 6:15 p.m.
Starter - (1) qualified person at each site
Timers - Final Lap Timing Group
One faculty representative from each school must be present to participate in running the meet. A schedule will be developed on a rotational basis each year.
Games Committee/Protest Committee
The games committee shall consist of the Starter, Referee, and Meet Director
All teams will enter athletes through Milestat, which is free of charge. All entries are due the Thursday before each meet.
Disqualifications
The games committee will review the decision if a competitor/relay team is disqualified during the event. Once the competitor is determined to be disqualified, the meet director will notify the timing system worker and then the coach. Due to the running of events, the timing of this decision may be delayed.
Competition Limits per Athlete
Each athlete may compete in no more than four total (4) events in a regular-season meet or city tournament.
When running either the 800 or the 1600 meter event in a regular season meet, the athlete may compete in only one (1) additional running event, plus two (2) field events
When running the 1600 meter event on the first day of the citywide track meet, the athlete may compete in two (2) additional running events on the second day of the citywide track meet. If the citywide track meet is reduced to only one day, a 1600-meter athlete may
compete in only one (1) additional running event. In either case, athletes who compete in the 1600-meter event may compete in no more than four (4) events.
When running the 800-meter event at the citywide track meet on the second day, the athlete may compete in only one (1) additional running event on that same day, plus two (2) field events.
Competition Limits per School
Competition in running events for regular-season meets is limited to five (5) athletes per school.
For the city meet, only five (5) athletes per school may be entered in the 800-meter run.
A competitor shall not compete in more than four events, including relays.
A contestant shall not be entered in more than four events. If a contestant is entered in more than the allowable number of events, meet management shall scratch the contestant from the excess event(s) by following the listed order of events.
A competitor who participates in more events than allowed by the rules shall forfeit the points for the event that puts him/her over the limit. Since we are running field events and running events at the same time, the event order will determine which event the competitor is disqualified from. Those points will be deducted from the team's score. A competitor shall be considered competing in that event once they are entered in the event online.
Field Events
Long Jump
The long jump will run as a dual meet. The event will not be scored as a dual meet. Each contestant will have three attempts.
Shot Put
The shot put will run as a dual meet format but will not be scored as a dual meet. The order of competition will be determined by the Office of Student Activities. All throwers will rotate throws. (i.e. 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b) Each contestant will have three attempts. The weights of shot put balls are listed below. The SMSL will provide two shots for boys and girls to use during competition. Only SMSL throws with SMSL shots will be used to score in meets. Shot putters may use their own shots to warm up.
Girls 6 lbs.
Boys 8 lbs.
High Jump
The high jump will run as a dual meet format and not be scored as a dual meet. The order of competition will be determined by the Office of Student Activities. Each contestant will have three attempts at each height. The bar will not go up and down during each dual meet.
Boys starting height = 4'6"
Girls starting height = 4'2"
Scoring
The scoring in dual meets shall be 10-8-6-4-2-1 for all events.
The scoring in the city meet shall be 10-8-6-4-2-1 for all events.
City Meet
The Supervisor of Activities and Athletics shall have the responsibility for the arrangements of the city meet. The regular season meets as well as the citywide running trials and field event finals will be at the following tracks:
The city-wide SMSL Track Championship meet will be held at one of the three high schools on a rotating basis.
A student must participate in at least one dual meet in order to be eligible for the city meet.
