Blacksburg Relays - August 29, 2026
MEET SCHEDULE
8:00am-Open 2k race
8:15am: Packet Picket/Coaches Meeting
8:30am: Girls Middle School 2k non-relay race (6th, 7th, 8th)
8:50am: Boys Middle School 2k non-relay race (6th, 7th, 8th)
9:10am: Girls Relay Championship Start
10:00am: Boys Relay Championship Start
10:45am: High School Open 2k race for non-relay members.
11:00am: Elementary School 800m race
**Awards will be given after each race**
AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING:
The top three relay teams for each gender.
The top three boys and girls in the HS Open Race.
The top three boys and girls in the MS Open Race.
ENTRY FEES
$40 per relay team - unlimited number of relay teams
$10.00 per individual if less than four runners for open races - each gender
$200.00 max per high school
Middle school - $10.00 per runner
$100 max per middle school
Open/Elementary: $10.00 per runner

THE COURSE
The Blacksburg XC Course is 100% grass with rolling hills and is very scenic. The course is spectator friendly and is considered a championship collegiate course. The course is located behind Blacksburg High School and has plenty of parking and restroom facilities. The course will have obstacles similar to a European cross country course. Nothing hard but something they kids will be excited about.
The course has been the host of many District and Regional Championship Meets as as well as the Metro XC Championships since 2014.
THE RELAY
The relay has four people. Each leg runs 2 kilometers for a total relay distance of 8k.
Each runner's splits will be listed, but you must know which athlete ran leg 1,2,3,4 to know your athletes splits.
Your first relay team is Team A.
Your second relay team is Team B.
You can have as many teams as you need. So your 10th team would be your J team. Any athletes you have that can't be on a relay can run the high school open race (10:45am).
Entry Deadline is Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 10:00pm.
To save a tremendous amount of hassle for the timing crew the day of the race, please email your relay teams (in order) to Brent Swiney at brentswiney@mcps.org If you have any changes the day of the meet, let us know as soon as you can so we can make the switch before the Relay races start. This is how you will know your athletes splits.
PAYMENT INFORMATION
Please mail check to: Blacksburg H.S., ATTN: Brent Swiney, 3401 Bruin Lane, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Please make check out to "Blacksburg High School" with "XC Relays" in the memo. You may also bring the check with you to the meet.
Elementary Race Registration: Register the day of at the Packet Pickup tent (Deadline to register is 9am)
Results: Will be posted on the results board by the finish line, but will also be live at trojantiming.com
Shirts: Short sleeve shirts will be available for $15.00
Concessions will be available near the Start/Finish area.
Restroom facilities: Restrooms with ample changing room will be available on race day.
Athletic Trainer: We will have an athletic trainer on site for limited assistance.
Water Coolers and cups will be at the start and finish.
