New Balance Nationals: VA Girls Individuals Preview

Field Events

In the field events Virginia has some state champions making the trek down to Greensboro in hopes of a title. Our largest field of athletes is in the triple jump where five girls will attempt to hop, skip, and jump their way onto the podium. The top contenders of this group, and also both in the seeded third flight, are Maya Hanks of Tabb and LaChyna Roe of Henrico. Both girls can go over 40-0 and in these conditions likely much better then that as well.

Also joining them in the competition will be Bria Stith, Jantsen Wilson, and Victoria Gibson.

In the shot put we have four girls trying to put themselves in a top spot this weekend. In this event we have Alexus Forman, Maria Muzzio, Makayla McGowan and 4A State Champion Zakiya Rashid of Nansemond River.

Zakiya Rashid is also in the discus as our top seeded competitor. She is also joined by Muzzio and Alexis Clark an underclassmen from James Monroe.

Virginia has no competitors in the 2000m steeple chase, high jump, pole vault, long jump, hammer throw, or javelin. Virginia also has no one in the heptathlon.
