Southern Track Classic Preview: Records To Fall?

Distance Races

Last year it was a showdown with the boys' two mile record falling but this year more records may fall despite Andrew Hunter's absence. In the girls Mile for one it is going to be another great showdown between Libby Davidson and Rachel McArthur (pictured above) over the four lap race.

The field is stacked but it is really them against the clock. Johanna Stevens' record of 4:48.12 is very much in danger of falling.

Directly following this race will be the boys' headlined by eight guys who should and likely will dip under 4:20. The two big dogs here are Waleed Suliman and Tyler Cox-Philyaw. TCP may have the faster time but Suliman has a whole lot of foot speed and is an amazing racer. If this race becomes anything close to a strategic race then just mail it to Suliman.

In the longer races though things could get interesting despite some lopsided seed times. For instance, in the girls two Mile Libby is the heavy favorite but after a tough Mile race we could see her face stiff competition from Rachel Northcutt, Lewis, Boyce, and King.

The boys on the other hand is going to be good no matter what with Zach Witt slightly leading Ryan Drew and Grant Northcutt.

If the start list holds to be true and she really runs then the 800 should exciting. Amanda Thomas, who has been battling injury all year, split 2:10 at Penn and is going to look for a big time in the 800 this weekend. It could be her against the clock but that would be fun regardless.

On the boys' side Trevor Whiteside, Buscaglia, and Sulliman are all in for an exciting and very tough double for some in the boys 800.

Dark horse: Dalton Randall in the two mile

Performance of the week candidate: Libby if she can pull off the upset over McArthur and win the deuce.

{Edit: Emma Call (Maggie Walker) is a late addition in the Mile}
