5A & 6A State Meet Preview

5A Girls State Championship

It would be a disservice not to begin this preview talking about one of the most prolific showdowns ever and that is between Britton Wilson and Nansemond River. Britton is one of the greatest ever already in Virginia and so far Nansemond River has had her number at the state meet. It looks like Britton is ready to change that and that certainly means we could have some historic showdowns.

First up for her will be the 400m dash against VA State Record holder Syaira Richardson. Though Richardson holds the outdoor state record, Wilson actually has the faster seed time based on her indoor performance. To put it plainly, it will take a VA state record to win this race.

Next up and what looks like will be a clearer path to victory will be the 200. She (Wilson) enters as the top seed and will have to take care of business if she wants the "W". Elsewhere, in the sprints will be Richardson and her superstar sophomore teammate Kori Carter in the hurdlers.

Another big duo to watch though will be Brooke Stith and Maya Seay who will be looking to catapult Maury higher up the team score list. The main team they will be chasing will no doubt be Nansemond River who enters as the odds on favorite.

Finally in the distance events we can also expect a lot of excitement. Martingayle, Holt, Helmmers, Mayo, Robelen, Bir, and quite a few others will highlight these very close events.

The event we are most looking forward to is that 400 which should be one for the ages.
