BLACKSBURG, Va. - Due to ongoing extensive improvements to Virginia Tech's Rector Field House, the 2018 installment of the Hokie Holiday and Virginia Tech Premier meets have been cancelled. This information was brought to MileStat's awareness late Friday afternoon (8/25).
This news is definitely a setback for the Virginia track scene as throughout its history the VT Premier meet has been the standard bearer for what a stacked meet looks like. It has featured multiple state and national records and for many years was the only meet on that fast Mondo rubber track.
Though it is unfortunate that both of these meets are being cancelled it is good news that VT is taking their track facility serious for one of the first times in years. For years Rector Field House served football first and track second but since the completion of the Hokies' new training center we have seen a strong shift in that hierarchy. This change and these renovations will mean a much improved Rector Field House with more bathrooms, room for seats, and a improved throwing area.
