Loudoun Valley Punches Home US No. 1 In Boys DMR At VA Showcase

LYNCHBURG, VA -- The Loudoun Valley (VA) versus Brentwood Cross Country Club (TN) distance scrum didn't erupt on the first day of The VA Showcase.

Loudoun Valley, which houses some of the nation's top high school distance contingent and won Nike Cross Nationals in December, was set to face off against Brentwood and its killer anchor, Brodey Hasty, a 4:01 miler, in Friday's AAU distance medley relay.

There was no match to be made.

By the time Hasty received the baton for his 1600-meter leg, the Vikings, with Colton Bogucki (3:02 - 1200), Jacob Hunter (400) and Connor Wells (800) on the other legs, were half a lap ahead of Brentwood, and added a 4:09 1600-meter split from anchor Sam Affolder to claim the crown in 10:02.58. Hasty passed a runner to lead Brentwood to the runner-up position.

The Loudoun Valley DMR time is a US No. 1 and No. 5 US all-time, six seconds behind the 9:56.18 standard set last March by the Carlisle (PA) team.

However, this is just Round 1 for both Loudoun and Hasty, as the Oregon bound senior will be in pursuit of Robby Andrews national record of 2:22.28, run while Andrews was a senior at Manalapan (NJ) High.

Hasty won't see any Vikings in his race, but will face Friday's Showcase mile winner Dalton Hengst (McDonogh - MD) and future college teammate Josh Hoey of Bishop Shanahan (PA), another Oregon commit with a best 1000-meter time of 2:24.68. Hoey will be competing for his AAU Showcase team.
