The Western Branch boys have arguably been one of the best track & field programs in the decade or at least the last half of the first decade in the 21st century in Virginia. Without a doubt, the biggest individual contributor to Western Branch's state title runs over the past few years has been Jeffrey Artis (pictured by John Herzog). The recent graduate in June, Artis as a 2009 state champion in the 55 meter hurdles indoors and 110 meter hurdles outdoors as well as numerous state runner-up and high finishes in several jumping events and hurdle races in state competition over the past few years, has scored more points for Western Branch than any other individual athlete for Coach Toukene.
