Added Commentary:
Class 6: Both winning teams from indoors look stacked and ready to go for outdoors. On the girls' side, the addition of an extra throws event helps Grassfield significantly but North Stafford and South Lakes could both score quite a few points to edge their way back into the trophy hunt. It will be hard to catch Robinson though. In the boys competition it seems as though there are five teams in the hunt: Gainesville, Western Branch, Patriot, and West Springfield, and South Lakes. The difficult thing here is Gainesville basically squares up with Patriot in almost every event meaning it's one or the other while the other three teams look to pick up points throughout. Western Branch's trophy hopes rely on just two athletes: James Craig and Bryice Smith who could be the difference makers for the Bruins.
For the Class 6 MVP: Both Smith and Rambo not only look to win multiple titles but will be looking to set state records!
Class 5: Nansemond River looks to be healthy again on the boys side and solid on the girls side making them (with the added hurdle event) the favorite in our book. Freedom South Riding will look for big points in the sprints and Glen Allen will be looking for distance and field points on the girls side. Other contenders include Woodside on the boys.
For the Class 5 MVP: Multi-event stars Davian Booker and Michailyn Rose should dazzle with their point totals this weekend.
Class 4: This could be one of two repeats we are predicting, the other in Class 1, where all four trophy winners are the same. In the girls' competition Blacksburg looks untouchable with Phoebus, Varina, and Hanover all giving chase. In the boys' competition it seems much closer but we give the edge to Churchland over Atlee.
For the Class 4 MVP: One of the clearest MVP's heading into the weekend is Varina's Imani Moore who could score over 30 points. On the boys' side jump-specialist Sebastian Pla of Tuscarora will look to be a double-champion.
Class 3: In this classification there have been two main storylines basically the last decade: tons of field points or tons of distance points. That seems to be the case again with Heritage-Lycnhburg favored on the girls side and Lord Botetourt favored on the boys' side. Field points are scary though as it is a whole lot easier to have a bad jump or miss a height than to have a bad race.
For the Class 3 MVP: This one is more up for grabs than the others with Garrett Jordan (Fluvanna) and Kayla Smith (Brenstillve) favored to score over 20 points.
Class 2: In one of the closest competitions and most diverse scoring, the Class 2 looks to be exciting until the 4x4's. Right now we are giving the slight edge to Lee and Bruton to double-up on their indoor titles but they will have to take care of business.
For the Class 2 MVP: Here you have the presumptive king and queen of Class 2 distance both looking to finish out the year with some MVP honors. That is Elizabeth Trant of Poquoson and Bradley Hamilton of Nottoway.
Class 1: Auburn looks tough to beat on both the boys and girls side with the added outdoor events only enhancing their strengths. Brunswick and Parry McCluer are positioned to score well and even more points than they did indoors but the question is will that be enough to catch Auburn.
For the Class 1 MVP: Not only will she be looking to win this weekend, she will be looking to score over 40 points! Rylee Coates of Northampton is the heavy-odd-on-favorite for the Class 1 MVP spot on the girls' side. In the boys' MVP race it seems to be between two of the entire state's best athletes in Parry McCluer's Kebryl Chandler and Auburn's Kobi Bonds. Points won't be enough between these two, they will need to go for records to claim this title.
