Back-And-Forth Battle Comes Down To The Line In Girls 4x200m At Grant Holloway

Going into the final leg, it was the relay squad from South County (VA) that came out of the exchange zone in first narrowly ahead of Oscar Smith (VA).

But Oscar Smith wouldn't go down without a fight in the girls 4x200m at the Grant Holloway Holiday Invitational on Saturday.

Oscar Smith's anchor leg made a move into the lead on the inside with 100 meters to go, with South County's closing leg sitting just on her shoulder on the outside. Coming off the final turn, it was South County who took hold of the lead yet again, surging through the line in 1:42.00 to win the event.

In second, Oscar Smith finished just 0.15 seconds behind South County to make for quite the spectacle in the relay.

1:42.00 from South County currently ranks the team fourth in the nation in the 4x200m relay.

Samuel Sets 60mH Meet Record At The Galleria Games

Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines (FL) sprint/hurdles star Aleesa Samuel made her sophomore season debut at The Galleria Games over the weekend -- and her performance didn't disappoint.

Samuel, who finished second in the 60mH at New Balance Nationals Indoor in March, improved upon her 8.46 personal best to clock 8.41 at the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex on Saturday, dominating the race from start to finish.

That winning time broke the meet record of 8.57 for the 15-16yo division set seven years prior. Samuel now holds the 60mH record across the 11-12yo, 13-14yo and 15-16yo categories.

With the 8.41 time under her belt, Samuel now ranks second in the country in the 60mH, only behind World U20 400mH champion Akala Garrett.

A Week After Champs Sports XC, DiCola Hits The Track

Just a week ago, Hatboro-Horsham (PA) distance talent Brian DiCola was under the sun in San Diego, Calif., running his way to a top-25 finish at Champs Sports XC Championships.

And just seven days before that, DiCola had the highest finish at a national meet of his career, placing fourth at the Garmin RunningLane XC Championships.

But on Saturday, the Penn State signee moved indoors to the field house at Lehigh University, where he put some of his cross country fitness to the test in his first track race of the indoor season.

DiCola clocked 8:30.14 in the 3,000m at the TFCAofGP Meet #2 to move into the top spot on the nation leaderboards. The performance also earned DiCola a five-second PR, along with recognition as the sixth-fastest Pennsylvania high schooler of all-time in the event.

Some of the names ahead of him? State 5k cross country record-holder Gary Martin, multi-time NCAA All-American Craig Miller and NCAA championship competitor and state record-holder Noah Affolder.

Already, DiCola has raced his way into some elite company during the 2023 indoor season.
