Boys Athlete of the Week: Steve Hoogland

With the course conditions and difficulty at this Great American Cross Country Festival held at the Ballatyne Resort in Charlotte, many runners faltered and had sub-par races dealing with the course. However, Lake Braddock senior Steve Hoogland had a far from sub-par race. He simply had one of his best cross country races ever as he finished 13th in the Seeded Invitational division with a time of 17:12. The time is very deceiving since most of the runners were running well over a minute slower and even over a minute and a half slower than their personal bests. Hoogland\'s time was the third fastest posted by a Virginian for the day as only John Crews (16:23) and Christo Landry (17:03) were better as he beat the times of the likes of Rasheed Thompson of Herndon (17:15), Alex Tatu of Thomas Dale (17:30), and Keith Bechtol of Thomas Jefferson (17:33). Hoogland\'s efforts at Great American earn him athlete of the week honors.
