The last time that the Stafford boys were in the hunt for a state title was back in 1996 with their only state champion squad in school history. The revival of this program which currently features one of the top boys' programs in the state of Virginia with their recent Northwest Regional title as well as one of the fastest individual female runners in the state in sophomore Hannah Lowery (17:47 5K best) is atrributed to one coach. The one person who has had the most important role in building and molding the Stafford boys from a bottom dweller in the Commonwealth District only a few years ago into a Group AAA state title contender for this year and possibly years to come, while also maximizing the talent of a gifted runner in Lowery is head cross country coach Pete Augrom. Coach Augrom had to prepare his team to be ready to beat some great teams with experienced coaches to get his team out of the district to have even a shot to advance to the state meet.
