Forest Park's Mustaqeem Williams is capping off what has been an amazing junior year for him including leading his team to state team titles in both indoor and outdoor track with another gear shift in performances at this week's USATF Junior Olympic National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. On Saturday in the finals of the 17-18 age group for boys in the 200 meter dash and running into a headwind of 1.8, Mustaqeem Williams broke the Virginia high school state record previously held by Olympic 400 meter gold medalist Lashawn Merritt (20.69 from 2004) by winning the USATF Junior Olympic national title with a US #3 clocking of 20.64. Previously in the semi-finals, Williams rolled a swift state leading time of 20.77 to set him up well for historic performance in the finals. Williams competes on Sunday in the 100 meter dash finals, which he has rolled through the first two rounds with a 10.45 in the prelims and 10.53 in the semis.
