Atlee claimed both boys and girls team titles at Saturday's Woodberry Forest Invitational with Nathaniel Hall making a strong season debut with a 16:33 victory on the challenging Woodberry Forest School 5K course to win by a comfortable margin of 40 seconds. The two-time Central Region cross country champion Hall missed racing last weekend at Fork Union due to a college visit and was unable to defend his title at that meet, but was back this weekend at Woodberry Forest to repeat his 2012 feat as the meet winner. Running well to edge out Woodberry Forest's top runner Robert Singleton (3rd, 17:15) for runner-up honors behind Hall was North Stafford's Zachary Batt with a time of 17:15. The Atlee boys nearly had a full two minute spread between their #1 runner Hall and #3 runner, but still managed to put nearly 5 runners among the top 25 to tally a team score of 77 points, which was 11 points better than the second place squad from Paul VI (2nd, 88 pts).

St. Anne's-Belfield School sophomore Madison Hunter always races well it seems at Woodberry Forest and she looks to keep that trend going when she returns back in November for the Virginia Independent Schools State Championship meet. On Saturday at the Woodberry Forest Invite, Hunter was able to pull away from a chase pack including Atlee's Katt Grasberger (2nd, 20:12), Fluvanna's Nicki Douma (3rd, 20:14), and Pope John Paul the Great Catholic's Denise Gallant (4th, 20:15) to nearly get under 20 minutes with a 20:02 victory. The Altee girls saw four of their runners break into the top 15 to help secure them a team title over St. Catherine's (2nd, 63 pts) with Grasberger leading the way and followed by Chloe Bavin (5th, 20:26), Scarlett Bavin (8th, 21:06), and Katie Gardner (14th, 21:20).
