Exciting day of track and field competition

DINWIDDIE, VA -- Today dawned warm and beautiful as athletes from 25 schools arrived at Dinwiddie High School for an exciting day of track and field competition in the Fifth Annual Five Forks Track Classic. Several athletes recorded personal bests and state, regional and district qualifiers on the fast Dinwiddie track. The Manchester High School girls scored a decisive team victory led by Briana Smith with three individual wins (Triple Jump, 100 and 300 Hurdles). Megan Isaacs from Menchville and Stephanie Walker from Varina each won two individual events (Isaacs, 1600 and 800; Walker, Long Jump and 200) in the women's competition. Other outstanding performances included Ayanna Jones of Thomas Jefferson/Governor's School in the Shot, Danette Holmes from Green Run in the Pole Vault, and LaTonya Anders from Caroline in the 400. Heritage High School won the boys competition in a much closer competition. Outstanding performances were recorded by Omar McDaniel of Bayside in the 100, Quentin Bowens in the 400, Kevin Watson in the 110 Hurdles, Val Osipenko in the Pole Vault, and Roy Hubbard in the Shot.
