Concorde District Meet Summary

The fight for the Concorde District team championships figured to be close between Centreville and Westfield once again, and form prevailed once again as the Westfield girls managed an 11.5 point victory over Centreville only to have the role reversed on the boys side as the Centreville boys squeezed out a four point win over Westfield in the meet held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md.

The Westfield girls were able to win four events and score well in quite a few others to win with a fairly impressive total of 136.5 points in the competitive Concorde District.
Junior Brittany Sevachko put the Bulldogs in the lead to stay after winning the 500 dash in 1:17.82 and Sevachko also anchored the Westfield 4x800 relay team to a win at 9:41.17 along with senior Laura Pramstaller and fellow juniors Eman Bani and Chrissy Esposito.
Westfield's other victories were from senior Betsy Alter in the pole vault with a winning height of 10-0 and from junior Kerry Hartman, who hit the halfway point in the 1,000 run at 1:27 enroute to looking comfortable the whole way in setting a new district meet record of 2:58.06.

Centreville junior Brittni Finch played a part in almost half of the Wildcats' 125 second place points. Finch dominated the field event jumps with victories in all: the long jump at 18-4; the high jump with a 5-0 clearance and the triple jump at 34-6.5.
Finch also defended her title in the 55 dash (7.41); was on the winning all junior class 4x200 relay team which included teammates Chelse Dunn, Erika Pinto and anchor Jordan Grant and Finch also ran a leg on the third place 4x400 relay team for the Wildcats.
Besides the five wins involving Finch, Centreville took home three other individual titles as well with Jordan Grant claiming the 300 dash in 41.66; senior Hana Tran a decisive winner in the hurdles at 8.62 and junior Stephanie White claimed the shot put with a 34-8 effort.

Robinson finished third with 62 points and saved their sole win for the final event as the team of senior Lauren Hallauer, sophomore LeighAnne Baxter and freshmen Ali Heck and Audrey Barry won the 4x400 relay in 4:06.20 in one of the more exciting races of the evening as Barry just held off Brittany Sevachko of Westfield as they dueled for the entire anchor leg, with Westfield a close second in 4:06.27.

The other two victories were posted by Chantilly's Lia DiValentin. The Chargers' sophomore stayed in control of the 1,600 run for just about the entire race, which resulted in a win at 5:07.35. I
In the 3,200 run DiValentin almost lapped the field in winning by almost 35 seconds in 11:06.50; made all the more impressive since DiValentin only went through the first 800 meters in 3:00 before putting the hammer down.

On the boys side, Centreville took the lead early in the meet and never trailed, although Westfield made it close near the end of the meet after going 1-2 in the 300 dash.

Centreville scored 110 points for the victory and posted field event wins from seniors Brandon Davis and Phil Allison, both of whom set meet records as Davis won the long jump at 22-2.75 and Allison the high jump with a clearance of 6-4.25.
The Wildcats posted wins on the track from senior Daryl Hamilton in the 55 hurdles (8.15) and also had senior Brandon Williams defend his title in the 55 dash (6.61) as well as getting a victory in the 1,000 run from senior Mark Hogan (2:37.75) after he broke open a relatively slowly paced race with 300 meters to go with a strong move that he was able to maintain to the end.

However, not to be overlooked was Centreville's third place finish and resulting six points in the 4x200 relay. In what looked like a disastrous moment after the Wildcats had the baton fly out of their second runner's hand right after an exchange in close quarters, Centreville still pushed hard around the track for the rest of the relay.
That, and the combination of a false start by one team, two team disqualifications and Centreville still beating the winning time out of the slower seeded section even with a dropped baton; the third place finish spelled the margin of victory.

Westfield gave Centreville as much as they could handle in scoring 106 points for second place as they were led by senior Kevin Dillard and sophomore Matt Anderson. Dillard set a meet record in the triple jump (44-11.25) and finished a close second in both the 500 dash (1:06.96) and 300 dash (35.86) to his teammate Anderson, who won the 500 in 1:06.83 and the 300 at 35.78.
Dillard and Anderson also teamed up to win the 4x400 relay along with junior Vinnie Allin and senior Tim Davis (3:29.75). Westfield's other victories were posted by the 4x200 team which also included Allin and Davis along with sophmore Matt Davis and senior Tony Rodriguez in 1:34.49 and in the shot put as senior Andrew Pittman defended his title with a winning toss of 48-0.25.

Oakton scored 87 points for third place without an individual or relay victory. Junior Joe Lorusso had a strong showing for the Cougars in finishing second in the 1,000 run (2:38.70), third in the 1,600 run (4:25.30) and anchoring the 4x800 relay squad to second place in their fastest time of the season (8:14.33).

Robinson finished fourth with 68 points and had senior Dan McHale withstand a surge by Herndon's Ermin Mujezinovic to win the 1,600 run in a personal best time of 4:23.65.
McHale also finished third in the 1,000 run (2:40.22) and split 1:58.6 on his anchor carry to greatly aid Robinson's win in the 4x800 at 8:12.37 with the team which also included seniors Dominic Collins and Wes Shaw along with junior Martin Wester.

Herndon was fifth with 46 points and posted a win from senior Matt Giorgis, who set the pace from the gun in the 3,200 run and received no challenge from the pack after making a move with 500 meters to go, as he won in 9:48.07.
Chantilly was sixth with 33 points and produced the other victory of the meet with sophomore Wesley Sun going 12-6 to easily claim the pole vault title.
