The Jefferson Forest girls were led by my some familiar faces.
Jefferson Forest sprinter Ebony Foster is looking to regain her form after coming back from injury as she was a double winner in the 100m dash (12.56) and 200m dash (25.54).
The Saunders sisters were at it again as always, racking up points for their squad in the distance events. Both Shannon and Kristin won each of their races easily and with quick times to go along with them. Shannon won the 1600m run in 5:19.24, while sister, Kristin walked away with a win of her own in the 3200m run with her time of 11:38.84.
Nicole Callaham's double win in the 100m (16.22) and 300m (50.24) hurdles showed that the Jefferson Forest squad has one of most balanced squads in the AA ranks as they have a great sprinter in Ebony Foster, three great distance runners in the Saunders sisters and Jennifer Templeton, as well as a nice complement to that nucleus, is Callaham in the hurdles.
Another solid contributor was Cate Jackson who won in the 800m run in one of the better AA girls times in the state with her clocking of 2:26.74.
What was very surprising at the meet was the performance of the Jefferson Forest boys. Lately, its been the girls squad that has gotten all the recognition, while the boys squad hasn't quite gotten to level that the girls squad is at.
However, things seem to be turning around for the boys squad as they won their first invite team title of the season as they narrowly defeated Christiansburg by 5 points with their total of 103 points over Christiansburg's 98.
The Jefferson Forest boys had many solid contributors to help them to victory as they had individual winners in Eric Nickell (200m dash), Eric Frasse (400m dash), and Jeff Tolley (pole vault).
Sam McKinney of Salem was a standout in the throwing events as he was double winner in the shot put and discus with monstrous throws of 49'8.75" and 155'3" respectively.
