Just when you thought the Virginia outdoor track season was over, one guy decided not so close. John Warren of Prince George did so by hopping, skipping, and triple jumping his way on to the USATF World Juniors team.

John Warren, a University of Missouri committ, has only been in Virginia for a single year but man has he done well in just a little time! In that short frame of time, John was able to grab three state titles and a national championship. En route to those titles he was undefeated in triple jump competition inside the commonwealth of Virginia. In fact his only two losses came at either indoor nationals and USATF's world junior trials.

At World Junior Trials John competed well and jumped 50-0.75 to finish in 4th. Though that jump was very impressive he made the team based on his prior performances and personal best of 51-3 from this past indoor season's conference championship. John also qualified for the long jump competition but smartly opted to focus on the triple jump competition. He now has a slight advantage against the other competition as the World Juniors competition will also be held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene. Now that he is familiar with the surface, warm-up areas, and has the assurance that he is on the team it will be time to take some risks and reach for a new personal best.

John has the potential of competing with a few other Virginians at the Worlds. Josephys Lyles (T.C. Williams), Michael Cherry (Oscar Smith/ Florida State), and Felecia Majors (South County/ Tennessee) are all in the pool for the 4x400m relay. Patrick Joseph of Loudoun County won the 1500 (Virginia Tech) in 3:49.76 and will be joining Warren in representing Virginia track and field this upcoming month.
