Satterwhite breaks Keino\'s course record at Fork Union

Western Albemarle junior Kyle Satterwhite may have made Coach Lindy Bain's post-season plans a bit tougher to decide on after Saturday at the Fork Union Invitational. With the Warriors eyeing a possible trip to Hoover, Alabama on November 24th for the Nike Team Nationals Southeast regionals, Satterwhite as well as teammate Tyler Stutzman showed themselves to be possible Foot Locker contenders as well on Saturday. Satterwhite broke former Fork Union star and past Foot Locker finalist Kippy Keino's course record with a final time of 15:04. Satterwhite closed well in the last portion of the course as he was running in fifth place with roughly 1000 meters to go. Teammate Stutzman also came in at a swift time of 15:09 and just three seconds off Keino's old record of 15:06 for a 1-2 Western finish as the team had (55 pts) a 25 point win over defending AA state champions Brentsville (80 pts), who showed they are still a team well in state podium contention.

The Brentsville girls also proved at Fork Union that Blacksburg will not win a second straight AA state title with ease as their veterans have stepped up and also some newcomers are making Coach Dulin's crew a formidable squad once again. With a low tally of 39 points and their entire top five in the top 12 places, the Brentsville girls sent a strong message to Blacksburg. Meanwhile, the Western Albemarle girls were able to reverse the results from Tuesday's Ragged Mountain Cup and move ahead of Monticello for second at FUMA to claim bragging rights in the Charlottesville area. Albemarle junior Liz Barclay was out for a stroll in the park at Hardy National as she broke away from the field early to claim the title in 18:17. In a sign of what is becoming a very loaded district for girls individuals when taking into account the Midlothian girls and James River's Kristen Wolfe and Ali Hummelberg, the Dominion District was well represented up front at Fork Union with two of the top three finishers in Cosby junior Jenna Moye in second at 18:33 and Clover Hill freshmen Abby Badura in third at 18:46 dipping well under 19 minutes on a humid day in Central Virginia.
