In the finale of the day Patriot and more specifically Rachel-socks-McArthur stole the show big time. To win the race in a US #1 time of 11:51.85 Rachel McArthur made up a huge deficit with her 4:50 1600m anchor split. This is what call "pulling an Alcorta" but we may have to rename this move after her beast performance today. This is Virginia's fourth champion in the girls DMR joining an elite group including West Springfield from a year ago. Blacksburg finished in a stellar third place at 11:57.69 with great legs by all four ladies. Blacksburg led throughout the race until McArthur ran the split of her life. If you go back and check out our preview too, we absolutely called it saying if McArthur split a 4:50 that they could win the race and that is exactly what she did!
What is really interesting is the rivalry we have between McArthur and Kate Murphy who both are making strong cases to be named athlete of the meet!
