Get Ready for Friday! Southern Track Classic Full Preview

In the field events we have some awesome fields present too. Obviously we have the girls triple jump which we mentioned earlier but we also have some stacked events and some serious stud athletes competing too. For instance, we have Grant Holloway in the boys high jump seeded at 7-1, a full 7 inches ahead of the field. Kathryn Tomczak (Lafayette) has the same deal going on in the girls vault where she is seeded at 12-9 way ahead of her 11-0 second and third seeded competitors. Both of these athletes will be going against themselves for the most part but also chase some VA #1's and meet records.

Both throws should be exciting to watch but also have the potential to be repetitive as Zakiya Rashid (Nansemond River) and Owen Chappell (Grassfield) enter as strong favorites in both the shot and discus competition.

In the boys pole vault Bryce Simpson (Atlee) will look to regain his hold on the state's vaulting crown but will have to go through Caleb Rider (Western Albemarle) and Andrew Arlint (Battlefield) in the process. All three vaulters have cleared 15-0 before.

The last field events to watch and what ones could be the closest are the long jumps and the girls high jump. Leading the way in high jump is Edison's Nicie Grier-Sprately at 5-8 with quite a few girl at 5-6 including Carly Feyerabend (Atlee) who could be the girl to beat with her consistency.

In the long jumps we have Titiana Marsh leading the girls with her 19-8 seed and Dontae Mauck of John Handley leading the boys with his 23-7.50 best.
