Western Branch made it a complete sweep of the Southeastern District cross country meet at Bells Mill Park Wednesday. The Bruins took both the boys and girls individual titles, as well as both team titles.
Callen Powers won the girls race, while Blake Theroux garnered the boys title.
Both runners trailed at the one-mile mark, then took the lead two miles in and held it the rest of the way.
Powers, a senior, picked up her first district cross country title in 18:54.15, besting freshman teammate Natalie Wynn. Wynn finished just six seconds back, at 19:00.75.
“It feels pretty good to win, but I was more excited about the team championship,” Powers said. “I was definitely running for my team, for my girls.”
