Light showers toward dusk, clouds, and cooler than usual temperatures for June made for good conditions for the first day of the combined 3A/4A State meet at Harrisonburg High School. Many athletes capitalized on the environment and broke meet records.

4A Girls Day 1 Recap

Zakiya Rashid of Nansemond River transitioned to the prelims of the Girls 100 H following her meet record effort in the Discus. She said, “it’s tiring to go from one event to the next and I just have to get rid of one in my mind and move on to the next. I felt confident and I’m very excited to sHore the first points for my team.”


Ania Thomas, a sophomore won the Triple Jump with 38’ 1.5” leap besting her second place seed. She said, “I’m glad I accomplished something in the jump and I’m going for my school record. I’ll be back next year I want that record.”


Brandee Johnson, a junior from Nansemond River, came out of the 100 Hurdles with the fastest qualifying time.
