Keith Bechtol Paces William & Mary At IC4A Championship

New York, NY - 2003 CAA Champion William and Mary men's cross country competed Saturday at the 95th annual IC4A Cross Country Championship, held on the five-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Tribe raced to a 12th-place finish in the Championship race with 266 points, a handful of points from a 10th-place finish. Delaware claimed 10th with 262 points while Marist slotted into 11th place with 263. James Madison won the Championship with 71 points. The field of 16 squads which competed in team scoring also included Georgetown, Maryland, Villanova, Princeton, Penn, Bucknell Yale, Cornell, Saint Joseph's, Iona, Saint Francis and Manhattan with the College outrunning Maryland, Villanova, Saint Francis and Manhattan.

Freshman Keith Bechtol (Alexandria, VA) led the Tribe's contingent by running a 25:55.7 for 26th place. Senior Brendan Gaffney (Western Springs, IL) was the next highest finisher for the College, taking 54th with a 26:23.4. Junior Adam Tenerowicz (Blackstone, MA) followed closely behind in 64th while sophomore Mike Dominguez (Herndon, VA) finished right behind in 65th. Senior Jon Healey (Wayne, NJ) took 103rd.

The Tribe concludes the cross country season this Monday by racing at the NCAA Championship in Waterloo, IA. The race marks the seventh-straight year the team has reached the NCAAs.
