Bethel girls shine in opener at UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, MD -- Both Bethel and Kecoughtan's girl track teams made the trek north to compete at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Invitational held at UMES's W. P. Hytche Athletic Center. Each team had individuals who faired well in early season competition.

Recent Virginia Tech signee Britni Spruill of Bethel kicked off her senior season with a pair of wins in the long jump (17-01.00) and 55 meter dash (7.27). Coming off an amazing freshmen year, Francena McCorory does not look like she has missed a beat as she posted an very swift early season time in the 300 meter dash with her winning time of 40.48. Recent transfer from Western Branch, Shakirra Pinnock, looked just as strong sporting her new green Bethel uniform in winning the 500 meter run in a time of 1:18.89. Charisse Bullock also notched herself an individual win in the 1600 meter run (5:50.71) as well. The 4x400 meter relay team of Megann Lawrence, Mccorory, Pinnock, and Spruill dominated the event in winning in a time of 4:06.29 to close a strong team effort for the day.

Kecoughtan's Keisha Ashe was the team's sole event winner in taking the victory in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.59.
