1
She broke the meet record by a blistering 56 seconds and on top of that ran a US #2 time. To put this time in perspective for how fast it is, it is the 9th fastest time ever run by a Virginia girl and the fastest ever run in the state!
2
Libby suffered a tough loss this weekend to some stellar competition. This was her first regular season loss in nearly two years but that means she has more to work for. She is still the defending champ and also one of the favorites to make some big moves on the national scene this year.
3
(3 Mile) Danielle's own mother was "shocked" at her performance at FUMA but then again that is what happens when you have some great summer training. She followed up her FUMA performance with an outstanding Oatlands one as well, watch out 6A North Girls, we could have another big dog in town this year.
4
(3 Mile) Also running very very well at FUMA this year was Maddie Hunter. She could be a big threat to VISAA this year in hopes of upsetting defending champ Morgan Lewis.
5
(3 Mile) Defending 5A State Champion Heather Holt doesn't want anyone to think she is beatable this year. Case & point, her performance at Monroe Parker to take home the win. She flirted with breaking 18 all last season but we could actually see that in the very near future making her one of the fastest in the state to go on top of her title as the fastest sophomore in Virginia.
6
(3 Mile) Just behind the fastest sophomore in the state is the #1 freshman in the state Rachel Northcutt. She is running very well and could actually be the favorite to win the 6A South title as a freshman! Keep an eye on her these next couple of races.
7
VA
(3 Mile) Remember this name. She cannot compete in either VISAA or VHSL but she will be down at Foot Locker and she has a real shot at making it far... San Diego far, this season.
8
Coming in at #8 and #3 for 6A runners is Oakton's Casey Kendall. She is going to be going toe to toe with Lake Braddock and Patriot this season but she and Oakton are the defending champs until they are beaten.
9
Noel is ready for a big year. Thanks to the courts, we get to see this great runner now compete in the VHSL and at more invitationals which means she will only garner more and more experience against tough competition.
10
The early season leader of the Blacksburg Bruins in quest of another NXN bid is Samantha Marin. She was 4th at a very fast Knights Crossing earlier this season and is the 3A leader at this point in the season.
11
Emma has come on very strong this year as predicted after her great outdoor season. She won the Newport News Invite and placed highly at W&M, very strong consistently and once she gets on a fast course could surprise a bunch of people.
12
She lost to Call at Newport News but bested her at W&M. This makes for a nice little rivalry right now.
13
She was under the weather this past week and didn't get to run at Oatlands, her home course. Once she gets well and on a flat course we could see a lot from her as she attempts to lead her teammates to back-to-back titles.
14
The first teammate of someone on this list is Sophia who is also from Blacksburg. Last year we had Jen Fleming and Bonnie Angermeier dominate 3A, this year it could be another duo from Blacksburg.
15
Defending champ for VISAA D2 and one of the top returning athletes this year is Morgan Lewis. She opened her season decently this week but is capable of much more. She is one to watch as she should be inside the top 7 in the coming weeks.
16
(3 Mile) The first of what could be many Lake Braddock girls this season is Sarah Daniels. She is going to go a lot faster once her teammates open their season up and they are able to run with each other in hopes of taking home that 6A team title.
17
(3 Mile) Wittrock was one a team that rocked last year and quite frankly could rock this year as well. She and her teammates have a lot of work to do to catch Oakton and Lake Braddock. Being on this list is a huge step though in the right direction.
18
(3 Mile) Running well on the semi-hilly course at Monroe Parker was Westfield's Freix. She is one of top 6A runners on this list and has the potential to move up even more.
19
Though Hannah has only run a great race on the flat Knights Crossing course, we know she is going to impress a lot of people once she gets back on the hills.
20
This has been a big couple of months for Lafayette. They went from being just another team to being the team to beat in 3A track. Her work definitely helped them defeat Blacksburg but this year they are in 4A and up against a whole new slew of opponents.
21
Julia had a great run this past week finishing 6th on a very tough course. She is the top returner from 1A and also the only athlete in the VHSL to win a state title in the old three classification system. The question though is can she make it a third year in a row at MileStates.
22
Georgie is the second athlete to make it on this list as a teammate. She ran a solid race at Oatlands and shows that her and Weini could do some damage together at 4A States. Keep an eye on her as she moves up this list once she gets a chance to open her stride on a flatter course.
23
Not surprisingly, because of Annie Kay Combs, Blacksburg is one of the only two teams to make three athletes on this list. She is one of the girls that could make some waves in 3A this season.
24
Posting an impressive pr and breaking 19 for the first time while also placing 19th was Jordan Elam. Cosby made some coaching changes and that could spell some big improvements this year for their XC team.
25
Just like Elam, Harper is improving big time, though on a very fast course, but cannot be overlooked. These coaching changes will be big as the season goes on. Because of Henson and her teammates' times, Cosby joins only Blacksburg as a team with three athletes on this list.
