Northcutt Siblings Steal The Show in 6A

WATCH the 6A Girls' Race here!

There are few things more impressive then a freshman girl finishing in second just behind Lake Braddock's Kate Murphy, but definitely one of those things that is way more impressive is 30 minutes later having your sophomore older brother also finish as the runner-up!

That was the storyline Friday the 13th at the VHSL State Cross Country Championships. In the Group 6A Championships we saw Cosby's Rachel and Grant Northcutt show that age and experience doesn't matter when you are just super talented. Both of these runners finished second in the largest classification with elite talent from top to bottom.

In the girls' race Rachel was up against some killer competition and teams. Despite this being her first state championship race ever, she ran fairly consistent and smart. She opened in 5:48, then 5:57 to come through the second mile at 11:45. She ultimately finished in 18:46 which was the 6th fastest time on the day.

In the boys' race Grant ran somewhat more conservatively compared to his younger sister. Maybe it was the experience or maybe it was just the race itself. Rachel was in second the entire race while in the boys' race Grant opened in 4:58 in 5th place. He then came through the second mile mark at 10:12 still in 5th. It wasn't until the final stretch though that he finally made the right move to separate and finish in 15:56 just a second ahead of Dalton Randall (Clover Hill) who was third and just down the street.

Though both of these athletes are doing big things now, with coaching changes and additions at Cosby this past season it is just scary to see where they are going.
