Lined up at the start to the right of Warwick's Megan Lavoie is Fauquier junior Sarah Bowman as she is making her return back to racing action after cutting her cross country season short due to injury.	Bowman jumps to the lead early, while Lavoie goes out with her for a fast early pace.

Hermitage's Laura Taylor and James River's Rebecca Ward, winner of the 1600 meter run earlier in the meet, are the next pair of runners chasing after Bowman and Lavoie.	Lavoie drops back behind Ward and Taylor, while Bowman finds herself firmly in control with the lead.

Ward makes a surprising run at Bowman as she closes the gap on the top national returning 1000 meter runner in the final few laps.	Bowman takes a quick look back as Ward is hot on her heels in the final lap.

Coming off the last curve into the final stretch, Bowman holds a small lead over Ward.	Bowman crossing the line in a swift Ashe time of 3:01.89. Her time is currently the fastest in the state.

Ward completes an incredible double from her 5:13 1600 meter win earlier in the day to finish runner-up in the 1000 to Bowman with the state's second fastest time of 3:03.02.
