Potomac athletes perform well in home invite

The Brian Watkins I-95 Classic had a decent gathering of Northwest Region teams at Potomac Senior High School on Saturday.

One of the top performers at the meet was Potomac's Brice Mathews, who broke 50 seconds in the 400 meter dash in a 49.67 winand came back with a solid 200 meter clocking of 21.95. Teammate Wesley Jones also finished first in two events as the 100 meter dash winner at 11.34 and leaping to mark of 22'4.25".

Another great field event performance came from a Potomac Senior athlete with Pearl Bickersteth (pictured right by John Herzog) clearing 5'6" to automatically qualify for the state meet. Bickersteth is the returning outdoor state runner-up in the event as she cleared a personal best 5'8" last June at Todd Stadium.

The host school also had a strong showing in the girls' hurdles with two Lady Panthers in Kayla Williams and Eboni Strawder splitting wins in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. The hurdles at Brian Watkins also saw a great early season time from Northwest Region 55 meter hurdles champion Reynaldo Radlin dipping well under 15 seconds in 14.68.

Mountain View has now posted two quality times in the distance relays prior to the month of April as they followed up a 10:35 DMR last weekend in Richmond with a 8:18.90 4x800 in a virtually solo effort this weekend.

One of the more competitive races of the meet came in the girls' 1600 meter run with Michelle Britto of Woodbridge edging out Kellie Hall of Brooke Point (2nd, 5:26.35) in a 5:25.80 win. Colonial Forge senior Kaylan Comer had much less competition in the 3200 meter run later with a 11:43.66 win and 45 seconds to spare on the next finisher in the race.

Noah Hagos of C.D. Hylton kept Woodbridge from sweeping both 1600 meter races by finishing four seconds ahead of Woodbridge's Andrew McGreal in 4:31.14, while 1600 meter third place finisher Cam Shaver of Forest Park came back in the 3200 meter run to pull away with the win in a sub 10 minute performance of 9:59.83.
