This morning (Thursday) nearly everyone in the nation was talking about an suddenly experts on track relays. This was of course because Team USA had a bad handoff, dropped the baton, and seemed to not have advanced to the final.
After further video review and a Team USA appeal, it was clear that the elbow of the Brazilian runner did hit Allyson Felix when she was handing off the baton causing her to botch the handoff. She may have messed the handoff up because of contact but had the leadership and composure and amazing presence of mind to tell the younger athletes to finish the race for the protest to be a thing.
Long story short though, they end up allowing Team USA to run their own time trial race and qualify based on time out of the same lane.

To many people this was a first in their lifetime to see this but for those in Virginia we had this happen just two years ago at the 4A State Indoor Championship.
Into the final turn IC Norcom and Glen Allen were head to head and during that final turn of the 4x400 there was a collision and both teams went down. Glen Allen was subsequently disqualified and IC Norcom was allowed a rerun.
Going by the rules Norcom was allowed this rerun exactly 30 minutes after the decision was made. The officials started the clock and the facility emptied out.
30 minutes after the only people left were IC Norcom, Phoebus, and Blacksburg who all stayed to cheer them on.
The Greyhounds fought hard and finished in 3:28.77 just .01 behind Fauquier to finish second. Those points also helped elevate Norcom to third place.
Definitely one of the coolest moments in VA indoor track history.
