Atlee senior eager to test his potential after run of bad luck

Ben Dejarnette has had a long run with bad luck. He's optimistic that now, as a senior, he's finally on a short track to success.

As a freshman, he started his first varsity season of cross country for Atlee High School with a stress fracture. He came back his junior year with a hip problem. And sometime last year, when his hip finally felt healthy, he picked up a pair of unpleasant intestinal parasites.

"There's all kinds of little nagging things that pop up when you're trying to get back into training," Dejarnette said. "So really, after the outdoor [track] season, I took two weeks off, got everything rested, and it was kind of like starting new. Since then, it seems like every week I've been getting a little stronger, a little faster.
