2A State Championship Preview
In the third and fourth races of the weekend the Green Dragons of Maggie Walker will be looking for a historic seventh and eighth XC team title over the past four years. They will also be looking to win the individual titles in an attempt to repeat last year's success.
Returning and defending his state title from last year on the boys side is senior Ryan Buscaglia. Finishing second last year and winning in 2014 in the girls competition was his teammate Khloe Pointer. Both will be attempting to win yet another individual title in their senior campaigns but a duo of Lebanon runners will be working very hard to flip the script.
Junior John Easton and freshman Jessey Bell, both from Lebanon, enter the competition as the favorites for both races. They will be attempting to win their schools' first girls title and second boys title individually.
On the team front though things do not look like they will change this year as Maggie Walker enters the competition with very strong veteran teams that you cannot count out. They know how to win and love bringing home trophies. Wilson Memorial and Floyd County will battle on the girls' side for second and it looks like Union should bring home second for the boys.
Editor's note: Union's boys team did not actually qualify as a team into the state competition. Gretna actually won 2A West and will be the best competitors for Maggie Walker. William Miller of James River also looks to be someone who was overlooked in an earlier edition. He will definitely be in contention as well for the boys title.
