VISAA Recap: The Saints(s) Take Home 1st State Titles of 2017

It was a complete sweep for the home teams this year as both Saint Christopher's and Saint Catherine's walked away with the VISAA State Team Titles this weekend. St. Chris snuck away with the win late by just 10 points over FUMA while St. Catherine's sealed the deal an hour in and never looked back with a 112.5 point margin of victory.

The big winners this weekend individually were Hannah Ballowe (St. Catherine's) and Ebruta Etta (FUMA) who both dominated their events and scored a whole lot of points. Ballowe though takes home our athlete of the meet honors with her perfect 30 points in three events. She scored those points by winning the 1000, 1600, and running on the winning 4x400m relay. Etta scored his 28 points in the 300, 500, and 4x400m relay. 

An extra big winner was Saint Catherine's coach, Sherry Edwards, who celebrated her birthday the right way by winning another team title for the Saints. 

The boys' team competition came down to the 3200m run where St. Chris sophomore Wyatt Campbell stepped up big and took home the win. Second seed, Julian Yescas (FUMA) battled obvious injury for six laps and then stepped off the track. If he had finished second they would have scored an additional seven points and been just that much closer to St. Chris. 

Fork Union boys did everything they could and finished strong with a win in the 4x400 to take home second place. St. John Paul The Great finished as the runners-up in the girls' team competition.
