      Amanda Smith (pictured left by John Herzog) in her first year at Grassfield High school, has accomplished more than most people accomplish in their entire high school year. The freshman from Chesapeake made her mark on the eastern region and the state early in her career, and has come out blazing again this year.

      Last year recorded one of the states best times in the 500 meter dash clocking a 1:15.59 at the AAA state meet at George Mason to place 5th. With her first all state performance coming in her first season of track, Smith headed into outdoor with confidence and looked to tackle the even longer 800 meter.

      The talented runner has shown that she has the endurance to run the longer events as she holds at personal record of 19:21 in the 5k. This time earned her all-region recognition as she placed 12th at the Eastern Region meet this year.
