CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The league office announced Monday early afternoon that it was official. The appeal entered by William Byrd has been accepted and they will be headed to the state meet this Friday to compete in the 4A competition. This comes after a nail-biter of a regional championship that saw both William Byrd and Pulaski finish within a point of one another.

The synopsis of what happened was this: originally Pulaski was scored as the third place team with 113 points and William Byrd was fourth with 114. Less than an hour after the meet the WB coaches filed a protest citing photographic evidence that a Pulaski athlete was in fact passed by a Salem athlete at the line. That change made the score 114 to 114 and in that case WB held the tie-breaker against Pulaski.
Betsy Nall, the athlete from Pulaski that was actually passed definitely was the true winner of the week and this entire situation with her simple and pure statement on Facebook. This is why we love this sport!
" Given the issues that occurred last week at the regional meet with the timing system, our staff felt the fair and appropriate resolution was allowing the additional team to advance." - Chris Robinson with the VHSL. That means there will be 13 teams in the Girls 4A competition.
