The 2017 VA Showcase 300m Dash Final that saw US #1 and US #2 finishes
Last year was good but this year it looks like the bar is going to be set even higher. Even though registration just opened and many more teams will enter it already looks like the 2018 installment of the VA Showcase will be the best one yet.
That all being said, The Va Showcase let us know today that the US #1, US #2, US #4,5,6, and US #10 returners for the 300m dash on the girls' side are all entered to compete at the VA Showcase. Leading the way for this group is All-American and national class record holder Britton Wilson (Mills Godwin).
She may be the favorite and considered the home athlete but this race won't be an easy one. Her next closest competitor is Jenna Crean of Orchard Park (NY). She owns a 38.99 personal best in the 300 and also a blistering 11.85 for the 100m dash. Her 400m pr isn't bad either at 54.59.
Jenna was one of the first invited athletes of the meet and will be training specifically for a big race this January. She is a multiple time All-State athlete in NY so you know she knows how to perform on the big stage.
These two ladies will be joined by the following athletes in what should be a very fast race.
Last year Lynna Irby took home the win in 38.09 in what became a thriller between her and Jayla Kirkland who ran 38.16 for second. Those times were US #1 and US #2 at the time of their finish. More importantly though both of these ladies went onto having quite the productive post-season as well. Kirkland would eventually take home the 60m national indoor title while Irby took home the 200m national title indoors and 400m title outdoors.
