Spring break for many schools and stormy weather rolling through on Saturday made it a very quiet weekend for high school track in Virginia. The second annual Tallwood Team Challenge was able to get their meet's events completed and the result was six state best performances including a huge US #2 long jump mark of 25'0.50" by Justin Hunter of Ocean Lakes. Marlena Wesh in the 100 and 200 and Taylor Wheaton in the 100 and 300 hurdles both had strong doubles for Landstown in the meet including US leading performances for both.
MileStat.com was actually on-site this past weekend in a meet across the country on the West Coast in which only one Virginian athlete competed in at the Arcadia Invitational in California as Jordan Hill of Albemarle leaped to a state best mark of 46'2.50" in the triple jump and posted one of the faster times this season in the 200 meter dash with his 21.74 clocking. The Arcadia Invitational proved itself once again to be one of the best meets in the country and is a meet which top tier Virginians should all consider to seek great competition as well as getaway from the sometimes poor weather conditions found early in the outdoor season.
It has been far too quite this season as far as performances by the Virginians. Its time to setup and roll these coming weeks. Hopefully the later start for most means athletes will be well rested and better prepared for the long haul including elite post-season competition at USATF Junior Nationals and Nike Outdoor Nationals.
