Dalton Hengst Transferred and The DMR at Nationals Just Got A Whole Lot More Interesting

DOWNINGTON, Pa. - PennTrackXC's Dan Beck reported early this morning that MD star Dalton Hengst is transferring to Bishop Shanahan (PA) to complete his high school career. Coach Uhlman confirmed this information as well.

This is huge news for Team VA as this addition now puts Bishop Shanahan in the driver's seat for indoor nationals when it comes to the DMR. Without Hengst they were able to run a 10:24 DMR (AAU) for third place at the VA Showcase.

That DMR time was also one that saw their star runner, Josh Hoey, running the 800 instead of the 1600. Hoey split 1:50 in that race and followed it up with a US #1 2:24 1K victory the next day. Hengst was second in 2:25.

Though Loudoun Valley easily ran away with the title at the VA Showcase, the math is there to say that Bishop Shanahan is now slated to run under 10:00 come nationals. This addition almost certainly helps Bishop Shanahan's 4x800 relay as well meaning Loudoun Valley's hand might be pushed now into a DMR, 4xMile double.
