McLean senior Caroline Howley didn't get the PR she wanted but she did have a once in a lifetime race.
Caroline Howley, a McLean senior, came down to the MileStat XC Invitational for a PR. As she said in her interview, she got out well and made it thru the first 1K in great position. She was well on her way to run a blistering fast time and break 20 minutes for the first time this season.
That is when the craziness happened.
Out of nowhere she heard something and then a deer banged right into her. It knocked her down and out of the race. Thankfully though she suffered no serious injuries and was just scraped up by the deer's legs.
The deer did not finish the race either and ran into the woods away from the thousands of people near the finish line area.
