Lee-Davis junior Megan Mann is having quite the outdoor season. She has already pr'd in the discus and shot and now owns a personal best of 144 and 44 in the two throwing events. This past weekend though she may have launched the discus far enough to consider herself the favorite in Class 5.
Last weekend at Dogwood she took home the title with her 144 best throw to not only lead the state but also now rank VA No. 16 All-Time in the discus. That big improvement comes just a few weeks after her 44-4 pr indoors in the shot which won her the Emerging Elite title at NBNI.
The biggest story of her PR's though is now she is ahead her Class 5 rivals Jalani Davis and Gabrielle Holliday. Both of whom are perennial winners and state champions too. This outdoor season could be Megan's season when she is finally able to break thru and get that first state title.
This weekend at the Southern Track Classic we will also get to see Holliday and Mann square off again. That should provide a great preview of what is to come at regionals and states.
One thing is for sure though. Megan is no longer an outsider, she is very much a part of the title hunt and that should make the Class 5 throws one of the most exciting competitions at Todd Stadium this month.
