The secret part of the season is over, what we mean by this is that finally every team has raced their "A" squad and there is really no room for secrets anymore. That is most true as it relates to the girls' team battle here.
We will cover that more below... up first though is the boys competition.
In the boys competition there is still only one team up front and that is Western Albemarle who currently ranks third in the entire state this season. They are trailed by Christiansburg and Maggie Walker who seem to be in quite the battle for that second and last spot on the podium.
The fifth runner is going to be key here.
Individually defending champion Joe Hawkes is still the guy to beat but his teammate Jack Eliason could arguably be called the co-favorite the way he has been running recently. In third right now in the rankings is Cave Spring's Austin Hayden.

The girls' side of competition is the opposite with MC Heinen leading big individually and the team title race being too close to call.
Individually it is MC Heinen seeded at a quick 18:06 with Jessica Palisca second at 19:00. Elle Anderson of Hidden Valley is currently seeded back in 6th but was 4th a year ago and cannot be counted out. She and Sterling Hull are the top returners from last year's state meet.
The team battle right now is between Maggie Walker, Hidden Valley, and Western Albemarle. With the updated team scores today things got a lot closer too.
Maggie Walker does lead the way and also has the strongest 6th and 7th runners but they have little to no room to spare with Hidden Valley and Western right on their tail.
