Watch his epic 1K battle with Ian Smith (St. Chris) above. This was O'Brien's closest race by far.
Virginia Episcopal senior and Princeton commit, Dan O'Brien, is simply an unstoppable beast. He ranks VA #1 for the 1600, VA #2 for the 3200, and VA #3 for the 1K. That is US #4, #7, and #11 nationally too. This past weekend though he lifted his star just that much higher by pulling off the first indoor distance triple crown that we could ever find in Virginia.
He began his day at VISAA with an easy 4:19 win in the 1600. Just two hours later he returned and ran his best time of the year in the 1K with his 2:29.80. That one was a battle between Ian Smith and him and his race strategy was nearly flawless. Finally another hour later he brought it home with a 9:19 in the 3200.
All three of his times were also VISAA State meet records.
