CNU Cross Country Teams Each Picked To Finish First In USA South Pre-Season Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport University's Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were picked to finish first in the 2004 USA South Cross Country Pre-Season poll voted on by the coaches.

On the men's side, the Captains received five first place votes for 25 points and Ferrum received one first place voted and 20 total points. Greensboro was picked to finish third, followed by Methodist and Shenandoah fourth and Averett sixth.

On the women's side, the Lady Captains received six first place votes for a total of 36 points. Ferrum was second with 25 points followed by Greensboro, Methodist and Peace fourth, Shenandoah sixth and Averett seventh.

Both the men's and women's teams are coming off USA South Conference Championships. The men are looking for its 12th consecutive conference title while the women are looking for its seventh straight conference championship.

CNU's Cross Country squad opens the 2004 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 in the Sea Gull Opener host by Salisbury University.
