Ortmans leading the field early at Oatlands
One of the biggest takeaways from the Oatlands Invite this past weekend was how good Charlie Ortmans really is this season. He opened his season with a strong time at Burke Lake Park and this past weekend came for another all-time great. At Oatlands he won against a stacked field with a 15:19 clocking. That time was just seven seconds off of Drew Hunter's course and meet record.
What does this say about his fitness?
For starters, those times are fast any way you look at them. The times are fast but their historical references tell us a lot more. Those times are rivaling some of the greatest runners in VA history. Those times put Charlie on course to run very fast and maybe sub 14:30 times as well. The real question is what is next.
Currently his next big race seems to be down at MileStat on October 15th where he was victorious a year ago. That would be a great place for him to chase the state record of 14:20.
