This past week the Potomac School boys were victorious at the VISAA State Meet. Potomac scored 72 points to beat the pre-meet favorite, St. Chris, by 17 points. They were led by Charlie Ortmans (1st - 15:43) and Sasha Minsky (4th - 16:46). It was that one-two punch that certainly pushed them over the edge.
Though it was almost a guarantee who would win, we were all curious what time he would run. Charlie opened the race very strong and actually was on pace through the mile to break Alan Webb's course record. Unfortunately on the back half, Ortmans took a wrong turn and had to double back costing him precious time.
Even with the turn around, Ortmans clocked the second fastest time ever on the course. Had he not made that turn, he could have seriously challenged Webb's 15:18.
Sasha was not only fourth place overall but was also the fastest underclassmen on the day. He better get used to that role as being the fastest as he returns next year with Potomac's 3-4-5-6-7 also all returning.
