Keino and Doswell lead squads to titles

FORK UNION, VA – Millrose Games miler Kippy Keino went three-for-three to lead host Fork Union to the Prep League indoor track title Saturday at the Estes Athletic Center.

Keino breezed to wins at 1,600-meters, 1,000 and 3,200, and teammate Delton Ashburn won the 55 and 300 to help put Fork Union comfortably in front of St. Christopher's in second.

Rob Tompkins, who won the pole vault and placed in three other individual events, and distance standout Philip Kreycik, who scored in the three longer races, did the heavy lifting for an up-and-coming Saints program. Peter Farrell won the 55 hurdles for third-place Collegiate.

In the League of Independent Schools meet, young multi-event talent Katie Doswell was the difference as St. Catherine's claimed a fourth strait indoor title.

Doswell, All-Metro in cross country last fall as an eighth grader, placed fifth in the triple jump on the heels of a meet-record win in the 3,200 (11:38.7) to secure a three-point win over Norfolk Academy and four-event winner Sara Rainey.

Collegiate's Danielle Gunnels raced to an impressive victory in the 300 (43.74), then anchored the Cougars' 1,600 relay to a meet-record win at 4:19.6.

Ann Tripp of St. Catherine's set a meet record in the 600 (1:44.1) and was joined in the win column by teammates Elizabeth Harrison (1,600), Morgan Barry (1,000), Lucy Trice (high jump) and Keri Boone (pole vault).
