In the boys race, James Monroe senior Timmy Young sets the early pace at the end of the first mile, with Culpepper junior Devin Cornwall close behind. Next, James Wood freshman Josh Wilson leads the main pack of runners.
Devin Cornwall emerges from the woods and passes the two mile marker with the lead. Colonial Forge senior Tony Nowotarski is next.
Followed by Tim Young who has faded to 3rd. Devin Cornwall sprints to the finish with a winning time of 17:08 followed by Nowotarski with a time of 17:16.
Tim Young holds on for 3rd place with a time of 17:41. Finishing 4th is Brooke Point senior Sean Peterson with a time of 17:44 with Kevin Pugh (17:45) and Battlefield's Jason Driscoll (17:46) dueling for position.
In the girls race, Jamestown's Monika Henn sets the early pace at the first mile with James Wood junior Stephanie Shenk close by her side. Next are a couple of pre-race favorites, Chancellor's own Beth Mahalak on the left and Brooke Point sophomore Brittany Copeland on the right.
In contention with their eyes on the leader pack are Riverbend sophomore Kendall Carty on the right with North Stafford freshman Kelly Reinwald by her side. At the two mile marker, freshman Kelly Reinwald breaks away from the lead pack to take the lead.
Heading to the finish, is another freshman, Colonial Forge's Kaylan Comer as she holds off Reinwald and crosses the line with a winning time of 20:54. Kelly Reinwald heads to the finish with a time of 20:56. Comer and Reinwald both go sub-21 in posting a 1-2 finish in their first cross country competition.
Finishing 3rd is Millbrook's Jillian Pollack at 21:02. Brittany Copeland on the left out kicks Colonial Forge sophomore Molly Hawkins to the finish with times of 21:21 and 21:22 respectively.
